Welcome, Music, Word and Eucharist

Every student participates in the spiritual life of our community through a variety of liturgical ministries. Training for participation and preparation in the various ministries is assigned by grade level.

Ministers of Hospitality
Juniors who volunteer are educated to serve as Ministers of Hospitality at liturgical celebrations. The ministers greet visitors at the door, provide assistance when necessary, and take up the Sunday collection.

Cantors
Cantors are selected from those choir members who volunteer and receive training for this ministry. Cantors lead the assembly in song at liturgical celebrations.

Instrumentalists
Students play an almost countless number of musical instruments at our liturgical celebrations. Just a short list of the instruments our students learn to play at mass include the trumpet, piano, violin, flute, bass, guitar, steel drums, bongo drums, and many other percussion instruments. No doubt any instrument that a student knows how to play will find its way into our celebrations!

Intercessions, Acolytes & Gift Bearers
Juniors prepare and lead the General Intercessions under the supervision and guidance of an adult staff member. Sophomores serve as Acolytes. Freshmen bring up the Gifts at Mass.

Lectors
All seniors receive training to be Ministers of The Word for Eucharistic liturgies and prayer services. Students are given their assigned readings several days before they are Ministers of The Word and are required to practice with an adult supervisor before they read at liturgies.

Intercessions, Acolytes & Gift Bearers
Juniors prepare and lead the General Intercessions under the supervision and guidance of an adult staff member.  Sophomores serve as Acolytes.  Freshmen bring up the Gifts at Mass.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
Seniors who volunteer are given instructions necessary to serve as Ministers of Communion. These ministers distribute the consecrated bread and wine at Mass and may, on occasion, bring communion to the sick.

Our students are our parishioners. Over four years they are trained to take on more and more of the leadership and involvement roles during the Liturgy.
