Keeping Up With Technology

From the Rector

My family purchased our first TV when I was in junior high. We had three TV stations. The times they were a changing. Within two weeks after moving into the Rector’s Office in 1994, I had the FAX machine removed. I was intrigued by this high tech machine, but due to our international students the machine was running all night with messages from parents and keeping me awake. I moved it next door so I could get some sleep. That seems so long ago. As a freshman at SLS, I was in the first class instructed on an IBM electric typewriter. The seminary had gone high tech. I completed my work on my second Masters Degree using a Word Processor and friends came to watch me type on it, they were in such awe. When I arrived at SLS we had eight Apple 2E computers for the students. I arrived here without a cell phone, email account, nothing was wireless and we had only heard of the Internet. Today I use all these tools along with video conferencing and Skype. All these devices were and are attempts to help people communicate better and quicker. Some worked better than others.

Our website and Facebook pages, our video conferencing and Skype are tools we have chosen to embrace and to benefit from them, we must continually update them. Our most recent Website updates and improvements are listed below. Today it is all about staying connected. For the times they are a changing.
