Faculty/Staff Interaction/Intervention Methods

Upon observing an infraction of St. Lawrence Seminary High School rules, policies or social skills, the adult will:

  1. Ask the student to describe his inappropriate behavior.
    • - Affirm him if he is able to describe the inappropriate behavior.
    • - Guide him if he is unable to describe the inappropriate behavior.
  2. Ask the student to describe and/or demonstrate the appropriate behavior for the situation.
    • - Teach and/or re-teach the appropriate behavior if necessary.
    • - Discuss the rationale for the appropriate behavior.
  3. Assign consequences or indicate what the consequences will be if the behavior is repeated.
  4. End on a positive note.

If there is little time to instruct at the time of the infraction, the adult will, at a minimum:

  1. In a calm, firm tone of voice, ask the student to change his behavior.
  2. Ask the student to see you at another time for further instruction.
  3. At that further instruction time, go through the steps listed above.
