Human Rights Club

Learn More...

The Human Rights Club is made up of students in all grades who believe and act on the conviction that governments must not deny individuals their basic human rights.

One of the most important activities of the Human Rights Club is writing letters to various governments on behalf of prisoners of conscience—men, women and children who have been detained for their beliefs, color, ethnic origin, language or religion, and who have neither used nor advocated violence. Students can select to work on individual projects of their own choosing, or in group projects, such as the Christian Rural Overseas Program (C.R.O.P.) Hunger Walk in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

In addition to writing letters to governments and working other active programs, students spend much of their time researching current issues involving human rights abuses and deprivation of justice, so that they can better understand the plight of those less fortunate and unable to represent themselves.

"It is necessary that when humans wrong, that humans right. The first step is knowing the problem. That is what the club is about: researching situations to find ways that we can help others." Michael Canelo (’09).
