Presence. Direction. TrainingIn 2006, St. Lawrence established an office for Campus Ministry. This is a ministry for students, faculty, staff, development, and maintenance personnel. It is to be a personal presence and resource for all on campus. The student spiritual life committee assists the Campus Minister. This committee is composed of elected representatives from each class and some who work in the chapel. The group meets weekly to plan Monday evening prayer, fraternity prayer, and celebrations of the Sacrament of Reconciliation for each class during Advent and Lent. Students who have ideas or desires to plan and facilitate other experiences that lead to growth in relationship to God are encouraged to bring their ideas to Campus Ministry. The Campus Minister also plans and organizes yearly retreats for each class. Freshmen and sophomores experience retreat on campus. Juniors go to Camp Mt. Morris and seniors go to Mt. Alverno Retreat House in Appleton, a Capuchin ministry. Members of our faculty and staff assist the Campus Minister and take an active part in the retreats. Training for seniors serving as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and Lectors, and for juniors serving as Ministers of Hospitality is also done through Campus Ministry. Spiritual direction is another aspect of the role of the Campus Minister. Sophomores, juniors and seniors are required to meet quarterly with a spiritual director. Spiritual direction is also available for freshmen who desire it. |
Our Campus Minister is a guiding light on campus, always available for our students, faculty and staff, to prepare others for leadership in the School's spiritual life or to provide guidance and direction. |
